Now I Am Become - Available For Pre-Order!

Living separately in Montreal and New York, brothers Andy and Edwin White put together Now I am Become. After their 2009/10 brilliant streak of jam tapes including An When (Black Country) and Dick Nights - on DoesAre - Arbutus is proud to announce the release of a 12'' vinyl.

This record is heavy - distorted vocals, guitars and drums rip through many tracks, but a certain analog softness rounds off what would otherwise be harsh tonality. 70's folk, southern, psychedelic are all appropriate to describe these melodies. The a'capella sessions which sparkle the record are beautiful; recorded in a massive concrete room, the echos sounds like the rest of the album - organic, warm and familiar.

The brothers seem to change wildly from release to release: from sampled-based pop songs to American folk, or 20 minute kraut-rock jams. But the raw spirit and pure character which haunts all of their music turns unpredictability into a unique kind of relief - it always feels good to listen to Tonstartssbandht.

Out on May 17th 2011 on 12'' Vinyl ($12) and Worldwide Digital, you can now pre-order Now I Am Become. Email orders@arbutusrecords.com to reserve your copy!

APRILS FOOLS, OOPS

Seems like the Dream Machine spoof has gotten a bit out of hand, so, first off, let me apologize for starting your month off with false hope. Dream Machine sprouted from a Four Loko fueled night by a sewer in Austin. 3 boys were drinking malt liquor under a street light, looked like a boy band, made me dream of a day where they would collaborate, took a picture for safekeeping. After enjoying stellar lols from Weird Canada and Gmail, I tried to play my own prank which sort of backfired when twitter exploded with news of our latest recruits and now I just feel guilty.

Sorry guys, while I regularily daydream of a supergroup involving some of the most handsome/talented boys I know, it will have to remain nothing else but what it was initially, a dream. Sorry for trying to trick you, no that is not Roland's voice you hear in that slowed down Savage Garden song. As a plea for forgiveness, I give you, a Sebastian Cowan chopped and screwed version of the latest Sean Nicholas Savage jam, Someone's Got A Secret. A Dream Machine remix, if you will... Goodnight guys...

GRIMES/SEAN NICHOLAS SAVAGE/DOLDRUMS at SXSW

It's been snowing and raining all day, but let us not forget the warm Texan sun and the icy margaritas. Here's a whole lot of SXSW memoribilia, from a series of instant pictures, to the three SXSW tour videos and soon, a special mix of the hot tracks we drove, windows rolled down and shirts off to, from Alabama gas stations, to NASA launch pads to Illinois motels to Detroit bowling alleys...

KOOL MUSIC 5 (click here)

Hello - when you click this link you will have the second KOOL MUSIC (that is, Kool Music 5)
It is a good album, I know because I made it (my name is Jasper who does Arbutus Shipping)
It is mellow and cool. Sorry Marilis for bumping Dream Machine...

"It was surreal,
when you're riding in a modern aircraft.
You're used to being enclosed
and not having the window rolled down,"
he said.
