Pop Winds // New Song!
Pop Winds have been hard at work in the studio over the past few months, and we have a special taste for you all as a result: Sight. It's hypnotic, repeating the same lyrical question over both delicate and more aggressive melodic layers, turning into a full-blown physc jam at the end. Enjoy!

THIS IS HOW CRAZY THE POP WINDS ARE
"I'm the one who's dead inside"
a psychological analysis of Montreal band Pop Winds who are about to open for BRAIDS for the launch of their new album, NATIVE SPEAKER.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The boys have a SECRET from their new album; one of the members died while recording. They refuse to say which member this is, but will acknowledge that they have been replaced. They claim the existence of a hidden message in their most recent (unreleased) recording. The message is subjective, "the message is how you read it" states Devon (singer). "Emphasize that the dead Pop Wind has been replaced," demands Austin (sax virtuoso).
The boys haven't dealt with the death emotionally, but they have requickened the spirit of the dead member into the replacement, "so in a lot of ways, we never perceived the loss in the first place," claims frontman Austin.
Austin: my approach to life is getting healthier. He doesn't know what his problems were in the past but some new knowledge. He is currently attempting to acquire some a problem with video games as he sees them as life. He wants to enter more fully into life through video games.
Austin: three men
Dev: three men?
A: a ya haha
D: I think of kyle struggling to live up 2 that
A: he's there
why do u work out dev?
2 get girls and to date grimes. /// Devon stays mentally healthy with regular workouts, which he cites as "a necessary prerequisite to date grimes"
Stay tuned for a new single early next week

Crystal Ball Music Video: a photo-essay
So I thought it's about time I wrote a post about the crystal ball video shoot.
Everyone involved was amazing and did way more work than was expected of them. D'eon fell through ice into a freezing river and almost died, and at the end we accidently made napalm and had to flee as firetrucks arrived to save the day!
The director of photography was the amazing John Londono:

And the director was a crazed foreigner named Tim Kelly:

Here he is saying "I'm done!" because the giant hat broke:

But despite hardship, the end results were incredible:
We also shot everything in double time so it could all be in slow motion in the final version, which resulted in me listening to this sped up techno version of the song about 500 times:
CRYSTAL BALL 160% by grimes69
SPECIAL THANKS TO : MARILIS CARDINAL, TIM KELLY, JOHN LONDONO, RENATA MORALES (who did the crazy costume), JASPAR BAYDALA, SEB COWAN, THEA GOVORCHIN, CAROLINE DUTKA, CHRIS D'EON, CYNTHIA-CHRISTINA CEE, TED STAFFORD, and if anyone knows the name of the fourth slave, the male model - I would love to know so I can credit him here..

I opened for Mike Tucker of the Project Blood Diamonds in Vancouver a while back and it blewww my mind. it was the best show I've seen in some time, and I have rarely met such a charismatic person. If you are sad, this music will make you happy. It made me dance in a crowd of strangers.

Blue Hawaii // Blooming Summer - RE-Release!
Blue Hawaii is Alex Cowan and Raphaelle Standell-Preston. Their debut release Blooming Summer, a studio album, referencing the pairs' travels through tropical Central America - but written and recorded in the harsh Montreal winter.Beautiful haunting female vocal harmonies are layered upon a lush harmonic and rhythmic structure to provide a nostalgic but optimistic foray into pop orientated dance music. Girls and boys, they love in the colour blue...
Previously available as a cassette, now released as a digipak CD by popular demand - this edition features new artwork and two bonus tracks.
Floral was recorded live off-the-floor onto an 8-track tape machine. This process is in contrast to the rest of the album, and features Austin Tufts and Taylor Smith of BRAIDS on drums and bass respectively. As well as Dream Electrixra as remixed by fellow Arbutus artist David Carriere (Silly Kissers).
Order this off the website's SHOP, or by emailing Jasper at orders@arbutusreocrds.com
You may also find it in record stores across Canada, via FAB Distribution.
