December 2009 Update

Aaron Levin at Weird Canada did a great review for Sean's CD release of Spread Free Like A Butterfly. There's also a good article in Edmonton's VUE. Read them here (Weird Canada, VUE), and get excited for the 12" that'll be out in one month. It'll have the best of these songs, and others!

We'll also be coming out with limited cassette releases of both Grimes' and Blue Hawaii's first recordings before the end of December. They'll be tastefully hand packaged coloured cassettes, with some sort of fun party to celebrate.

I mastered Grimes' stuff yesterday morning. She walks a line between classic Madonna glam pop and the twisted delay swamp of 80's LSD goth (think Cure, Siouxise and the Banshees, etc.)

Presently, I'm listening to Blue Hawaii mix a song about sea horses. Raph's heartmelting vocals playfully sing a catchy line, while enveloped in the warm washy reverby embrace of Alex's guitar. Oh yeah, and the drums are distorted, loud, and dancey. It sounds amazing.

This will be a great winter.

Arbutus reconsiders philosophy and website!

In closing Lab Synthèse, we have said goodbye to a cherished friend. With grace and ease, lab provided for us more then we could have imagined. Not that it was effortlessness - at times it was incredibly difficult - but these trying situations allowed one to grow and learn at an unparallelled rate.

In this parting, we take with us the significance we found. The integral community built by these efforts, is turned to this new focus: a medium liberated from the limitations of physical space. The direct involvement of the community results in the opening and cumulative mutual growth of all projects.

As such, a generously proportioned congratulations is extended to Alex for fronting the new website, Emily for her design and artistic input, and Tamas for his boundless knowledge of all things.
